Our History

Steve Clegg started out in the auto business working for his uncle at 16 years old, cleaning the shop and busting tires at Clegg Car Care in Orem. Steve picked up the business quickly and ultimately became a part owner there. Steve’s brother Kevin joined him and ran the front counter while he was going to college. In 1998, Steve and Kevin both left Clegg Car Care and opened up their own repair shop in Spanish Fork as the first Clegg Auto location. Kevin left after a year and returned to school for a graduate degree and an eventual career in the corporate world. Steve continued to build an outstanding business and a solid reputation through a lot of hard work, trust, and outstanding customer service.

In 2007, Steve partnered with his brother-in-law Johnny Meyer. Together, they opened a Provo location. Then, in 2012, Kevin moved back to Utah with the understanding that when it was time to sell the company that it would be sold back to the employees. Steve, Kevin, and Johnny then all partnered together to open a new, larger Provo location. Glen Roberts was also invited to join the ownership team in Provo due to his long standing commitment to the business and its customers.

2019 brought another year of growth with the opening of our first auto body and collision shop in Spanish Fork, in partnership with Judd Leifson and Weston Harding.  

The service shops continued to grow and expanded into American Fork with a new location in the Fall of 2019.

In 2020, discussions began in earnest about moving all the companies to an employee ownership model.  It took several years to determine what that would look like and to finalize the structure and transition all of the businesses into an Employee Owned Trust.  In July 2022, ownership of the four locations officially transitioned to the A More Stewardship Trust. This transition enabled many new and exciting opportunities, but the day-to-day operations and services of the individual repair shops and the body shop remained the same. Additionally in July 2022, A More Stewardship Company was formed to provide support, management and other shared services to current and future companies owned by the Trust. 

The Clegg Auto stores will now forever be held in the Trust, never to be sold again.  It will operate going forward with a few very clear purposes:

  1.  Provide incredible jobs for its employee owners that allow them to progress both personally and professionally 
  2. Provide an environment and services in every community we are in, where customers know we care and receive services that are second to none.
